Scrap & Herb Guide

THESE MECHANICS ARE FOR THE DR LIve RULESET.

This is a summary of the common items that are used in crafting, trade, and used as resources during a Dystopia Rising event. You can find specifics about these cards in the Guide’s Guide, starting on page 86. You can also read about the other types of Item Cards on our website.

Scrap

Scrap is a piece of physical material that is often used for crafting. Scrap cards are bits and pieces of salvaged materials with usable components in them that are commonly used with Artisan skills.

Scrap can be found in game, acquired via certain Skills, seeded via NPCs or in-game events, and can be traded, stolen, or used in game. Scrap item cards represent materials that are harvested, recovered, or scrounged. These materials are not considered to be “pure” states of the material but instead are ores, scraps, or refuse that has the resources inside them.  Scrap item cards normally have a 12- month expiration date.

There are two categories of Scrap: Generic Scrap and Named Scrap.

generic Scrap

Scrap is the building blocks of most Artisan recipes in the game and is primarily acquired with the Salvaging and Basic Foraging skills. Most scrap will come from defeated Raiders and Lineage threats, or via Blueprints like the Helscape Mine.

  • Basic Scrap

  • Uncommon Scrap

  • Rare Scrap

Each level of Scrap is generally used in the equivalent Basic, Proficient, and Master crafted items. This Scrap can be combined together into the next higher tier of scrap or broken down into a lower tier by using a function of the Artisan Crafting Zone known as Forging. When a scrap card is Forged into a new item card, it generally resets the expiration date of that scrap card.

Named Scrap

Named Scrap is the most prolific category of Scrap and generally represents rarer or hard to find items in the wasteland. Named Scrap has three sub-categories, depending on which skill or process is used to generate them. These sub-categories are sometimes referenced on Blueprints or other item effects.

The three sub-categories of Named Scrap are: Metals, Natural Resources, and Trade Resources.

  • Metals (Basic artisan)

    • Alloy Metal

    • Conductive Metal

    • Hard Metal

    • Radioactive Metal

    • Soft Metal

  • Natural Resources (Foraging)

    • Combustible Materials

    • Craftable Stone

    • High Grade Lumber

    • Natural Fibers

    • Psionic Crystals

  • Trade resources (travel)

    • Machined Components

    • Mechanical Components

    • Plastics

    • Recovered Electronics

    • Synthetic Fibers

Named Scraps are commonly used in various Artisan Blueprints, and they are the most varied Scrap in the terms of availability and price. Named Scraps tend to be used in equivalent-tier Blueprints, so if a Proficient skill is required to generate that resource, it is often used in Proficient level Blueprint items.

Metals tend to be more valuable as the Forging process at an Artisan Crafting Zone requires both Mind points, time, and Basic Scrap to generate the items. Travel Resources tend to be a bit rarer overall as the skill can only produce a limited number of purchases per event. Natural Resources can be a bit more reliable to generate but still require a player to find or generate a Foraging Card somewhere on the site during an event. There are also several gizmos and item cards that can impact the ability to harvest Scrap or unlock new ways to acquire certain materials.

Herbs

Herbs are bundles of organic materials and plant matter that is commonly used in brews and other forms of Culinary crafting.

Herbs can be found in game, generated by the use of Skills, seeded via NPCs or in-game events, and can be traded, stolen, or used in game. Herbs usually have 6-month expiration dates.

There are three categories of Herbs: Generic Herbs, Lineage Herbs, and Cross-Lineage Herbs.

Generic Herbs

Herbs are the building blocks of most Culinary recipes in the game, and are primarily acquired with the Basic Agricultural skill, though Foraging, Salvaging, Lineage Advantages, and some Profession skills can occasionally generate these Herbs.

  • Basic Herb

  • Uncommon Herb

  • Rare Herb

Each level of Common Herb is generally used in the equivalent Basic, Proficient, and Master crafted items. Any two Herbs can be used to duplicate and craft new Blueprints, following the instructions at the bottom of the Blueprint.

lineage Herbs

Lineage Herbs are separated into two “seasons”, depending on the season they can be easily found in the wild of the game, or farmed with the Agricultural skill. Lineage Herbs are primarily used in Strain-specific Brews and Meals that benefit characters of those particular Strains. Each Lineage has four specific Lineage Herbs associated with them, two from each season.

Lineage Herbs are considered either In-Season Herbs or Out-of-Season Herbs, depending on which month it currently is in real life during the Dystopia Rising event. Only the rarest and most powerful brews will need specific In-Season Herbs, as most brews have several variations of the recipe that can take whatever Herb is seasonal at the time.

Produce

Produce is a series of resources that have been produced, gathered, or grown, especially with dedicated forms of farming or specialized equipment. It encapsulates various types of materials gathered that cannot be grown or farmed without unique equipment, mechanics, or resources.

Produce can be found in game, acquired via the Travel skill, seeded via NPCs or in-game events, and can be traded, stolen, or used in game. Produce are resources farmed or harvested that are a general descriptive category of a type of material gathered. Players may in turn describe their produce appropriately in a way that describes the materials but is not representative of a regional Produce. (i.e. – A player can say they are selling quail eggs or lizard eggs as their Produce: Eggs card).

Produce can be created in one of two ways. They can be purchased with the Travel skill by using Mind and Local Currency (no Trade Notes or non-local currency), or via equipment created with blueprints that combine appropriate skills and Zones of Play. Produce cards have a 3-month expiration date.

  • Eggs

  • Fish

  • Fruits

  • Infectious Material

  • Meat

  • Milk

  • Shellfish

  • Tree Nuts

  • Vegetables

Produce is commonly used in various Culinary Blueprints, particularly in Meals and items that restore Body and Mind. If a blueprint simply calls for “produce”, any type of produce above can be used, but most will specify the specific resource needed. Infectious Material is most commonly used in various Grave Mind procedures and items that interact with the Mortis Amaranthine, while Shellfish is commonly used in poisons.

Necrology Resources

Necrology Resources are a unique type of item card that is incredibly rare, produced in limited quantities, and have their use and production standardized across the network. All items crafted via the Necrology category are bound to an individual character upon creation, and can only be generated by a player skill or ability. These will never be acquired from local mechanics, NPCs, or other means of entering play.

Necrology items are not an easily attainable resource for play. Completion of one Necrology project may require multiple rare resources, and multiple participants with specific skills. Necrology projects are a very big deal, focused on by multiple established characters.

Crafting Skills

Necrology Blueprints require certain Profession skills to craft, along with the appropriate Necrology Resources. These skills can be unlocked by the Professions Corpse Harvester and Ruin Engineer.

  • The Organic Machine

    • This skill is required in conjunction with a number of other lores and skills to produce tangible Necrology resources.

  • The Living Experiment

    • This skill is required in conjunction with a number of other lores and skills to perform any medical, Mortis, or experimentation procedure involving Necrology resources.

Types of Necrology Resources

There are five types of Necrology Resources that can be acquired in game from various player skills. These items can be found in limited quantities during National Events as well

  • Necrology Resource: Imprint Crystal
