Story Overview

Our Setting Premise

New Bravado was once a boomtown built on the promise of wealth, status and discovery before the fall of the San Saba Board. The wastelands that make up the San Saba; the greater region upon which New Bravado resides, are irradiated and unforgiving to the fragile Survivors who brave them.  From the empty sands of the Dune Sea to the forgotten ruins of once grand settlements, the wasteland is a cruel and brutal mistress.

Built by its own citizens, Bravado is a frontier town whose identity and relevancy are now staked almost entirely on The Ox, one of the few remaining locomotives built from the detritus of broken construction equipment, several derelict train cars and a single jet engine.  While the Ox once rocketed across the greater wastes at ludicrous speeds to deliver raw products and finished goods to their respective markets, the quickly decaying network of rails now only stretches between a few remaining settlements.

Beneath the city, in the ruddy clay of yesteryear, lie the bones of an ancient Facility - fossilized in the stratum below the surface by eons of disuse and quietude. Rare metals, scrap and salvage are harvested from within, wiring pulled from ancient and unknowable machines, steel plating ripped from walls, and glass and metals gathered from forgotten workshops below.  Despite the arcane script of lost Barogue inscribed on walls below, only the Delvers and diggers who work for the Junkerpunks seem to care any longer for the forgotten secrets within, and the howls of undead that lurk in the shadows.

Below them all, below the quiet streets of New Bravado, beneath the Facility and below what lurks beneath that, the Mortis Amaranthine churns with all the whirling surety of a meat grinder, and it waits inevitably for its time and its turn.  As the radioactive nightmare of the Exclusion Zone nearby seems to wane, new strange blue mushrooms absorbing and consuming the dangerous radiation within, the balance of the Grave Mind seems to have shifted.

Left alone to their own devices, doomed to repeat that which has been lost to a fog of memories, and ignored by once allies, New Bravado has entered a tenuous epoch during which its future is unsure, but its potential is vast. It will be up to the citizens of this ghost town to survive new threats and challenges from within and abroad, and to make a mark on history that can never be forgotten.

The Season seven Story

A new dawn breaks over the San Saba.  Through the embers of the Burning Season, the town of Bravado emerges into a brave new world.  For the first time in years, a chance for real peace looms on the horizon and the echoes of war fade into memory.  The wasteland is still a harsh and unforgiving place, and survival is never guaranteed, especially in a world of unending hordes of zombies and deadly raiders.

The new Tri-City Alliance has made a promise of renewed diplomacy, trade, and peace, but the red skies over Drywater betray the unity of the nearby settlements of Bravado and Bastion.   With Drywater still in the hands of the fearsome pirates of the Drowned Sun, the displaced Junkerpunks have taken refuge in Bravado, adding new mouths to feed and new competition for limited resources.  The Mustang Loyalists of Bastion have reinforced the beleaguered Militia, reforming it into a new force under the command of the infamous General Mustang.  The Peacekeepers, a new vision of security in the wastes, have focused their defense on the San Saba peninsula, erecting new watch towers and walls to protect the shared interests of the Alliance.

New laws and organization have reshaped the tiny town of Bravado, moving one step further from anarchy and towards structure and society.  With the Law Dog Union leading the hunt for criminals and terrorists, the Justices of Sin turn their gaze inwards to reform their ranks with the help of the Arbiters of Bond.   The Ox has moved back to Essex, leaving Bravado a forgotten stop on the rail lines of the San Saba.  The RRC has once again chased their dreams of scrap and salvation into the ruins of Morgan’s Folly under exciting new leadership.  The Grave Council has echoed Bravado’s concerns about the faltering Mortis and potential corrupted Morgue, but has focused on the mysteries of Necrology to protect the new Vaults of Reckoning underneath Pride’s Hold.

The survivors of Bravado now face a moment to contemplate the choices they made during the War of Antlers, and to focus once more on the immediate concerns of surviving in a hostile apocalypse.  Simple decisions like finding fuel, scrap, and food drive most days for a survivor in Bravado, but in those quiet moments between simple survival comes the questions.  Who are you, really?  What identity will you choose to define you?  What makes your efforts mean something in this new world?  How will your choices ahead inform who you will become?  How will you avoid being left behind in a world where you no longer have a war to fight?  Will anyone remember Bravado, as the strange fogs continue to tear at the memory of those outside?

New threats, new faces, and new challenges await Bravado in the new year.  Will you be a survivor, or will you be lost to the Fog of Memories and the endless churn of the undead?
