your First Event
When you arrive at your first Dystopia Rising Event, you’ll probably be at Camp Bluebonnet Shores, our long-standing partner and Girl Scouts of America campground.
You can find a map of the campground HERE.
You can park in the general parking area when you first arrive. Please make sure not to block any other cars in. Driving on site is not allowed without explicit permission from our gamerunners for liability reasons. There are carts provided at the cart corral to move your sleeping gear onto the site.
Check-In for Pre-Registered attendees begins at 4pm on Friday at the Post Office on site. While attendees who are purchasing their tickets at the event are allowed to check-in at 6pm Friday. You’ll know you’re Pre-Registered if you purchased your ticket online and checked in via the Dystopia Rising Database. At Check-In you’ll receive your character sheet and receive any event-specific paperwork that will help you engage the plot for the weekend.
Once you’ve checked-in, it’s time to Find a Bunk. New Players, for their first three Dystopia Rising events, are welcome to sleep in the Dusthouse, which is our In-Character name for the New Player Cabin onsite, called Redbud Cabin on the camp map. This cabin is air conditioned and while you stay in it, your character will experience reduced threats during sleeping hours. Sleeping at the Dusthouse is a great way to meet other new players and form relationships with their characters. In all, the Dusthouse can sleep about 25 players.
After you’re bunked, it’s time to head back over to where you checked in and find the New Player Guides. Starting around 6pm on Friday, the New Player Guides will be seated in the front of Cedar Cabin, ready to answer questions and build characters with new players. These Guides are an important resource. Later, during the official orientation, they will not have time to answer every question that comes up, so we recommend coming by earlier!
At 9pm Friday night, an hour before Game On, we hold Opening Announcements at the Cedar Cabin, which to your character will be known as The General Store. During Opening Announcements, the staff will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to you, give you important info for the weekend and drop important plot hints. Make sure to attend Opening Announcements, especially for your first game!
After Opening Announcements the New Player Orientation takes place at Cedar Cabin. During this time our New Player Guides will prepare you for Game-On at 10pm, at which point you will attend the New Player Mod before being let loose on New Bravado as fully fledged characters in the setting.
