CONCEPTS NOT APPROVED FOR PLAY AT DR: TeXas
Before you start preparing to attend a Dystopia Rising Live event, let’s talk about the concepts that are not allowed in our game. These are concepts that we will avoid at all costs and will not introduce into our game as the staff or players.
The following character concepts will never be approved for play in DR:TX:
Gender bias, racism, persecution, or inappropriate behavior has no space in our community. Players of Dystopia Rising come from a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and creeds. The wastes are a harsh place, with room for injustice in the stories we want to tell in them. But in order to participate in hard stories, we must first be good and tolerant of the differences among us as players.
Any character physically or mentally under the age of 18.
Any character who participates in bigotry towards their fellow player, or towards minorities at large. The character you play may have a problem with a particular strain, which creates a compelling narrative parallel to racism - but under no circumstances may our characters, or the players who portray them, participate in real-world bigotry that affects real people every day.
Any character that uses symbols of real-world hate groups in their costuming. Symbols relating to real-world hate groups, historical or present, are not permitted in Dystopia Rising: Texas, and should not be used in any costuming or displayed on site. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of Nazi imagery, terrorist slogans or imagery, etc.
Any character that uses real-world political symbols in their costuming. It is best practice to avoid all sorts of politically-charged slogans and imagery in character costuming. Symbols such as the Confederate Flag, MAGA hats, or political slogans should not be included in character costuming.
Any character that parodies real-world religions and beliefs. People of all faith backgrounds attend Dystopia Rising. There are in-game faiths that can draw on various concepts similar to those of real-world religions, but any concept or costume that outright caricatures or parodies a real-world belief system is not allowed.
Any character that is influenced by Indigenous American cultures. No characters should be emulating the Indigenous people of North America, especially not if the player themselves is not a part of these cultures out of game. Items such as feather headdresses, face paint, and cultural practices are part of a real-world culture that has been silenced and oppressed historically and into the present day. Natural Ones, for example, should not model themselves after possibly harmful stereotypes about Indigenous people, but should move towards a doomsday-prepper-survivalist look instead.
Any character background that includes topics of sexual assault or abuse. Dystopia Rising: Texas does not include any themes relating to sexual assault or abuse, and players should not include these when creating their character stories.
Any character background that includes topics of slavery. Dystopia Rising: Texas does not include any themes relating to slavery, and players should not include these when creating their character stories.
